I cannot believe this year is almost over. It has been a joy to have your children in my classroom. I hope they have learned as much from me as I have from them. To finish out the school year we will be learning about the summer months. We will study summer weather, things to do and places to go in the summer. We will "travel" to the beach as well as the Grand Canyon as the children study the landscape of our country. We'll learn about water and the sun. We'll finish the year by having some fun learning through play. The children will be studying their math and spelling with the help of outside play time.
I want to thank you for letting me teach your children this year. I have loved every minute of it. I hope to hear from your children in the future as they succeed throughout their school careers. And I am honored to have been able to be a part of that history.
Have a great summer!!

Happy Spring!!
Hooray! We've made it to spring, my favorite time of year. In the weeks to follow we will be learning all there is to know about spring, from flowers, to the season of spring, to animals. Each of these units will include multidisciplinary learning where we will be incorporating spelling, math, and science into each lesson.
First we are going to start by learning about the flowers that will be starting to sprout. Our spelling lesson will include learning some of the names of flowers, and the math and science units will include learning how to plant seeds and growing our own flowers. Next we will be learning about March coming in like a lion and April showers. These units will incorporate spelling and science through learning about clouds and the atmosphere. Finally we will finish by learning about the new animals that will be seen this season. New birds, bunnies, and farm animals abound! To conclude this season we will be taking a trip to the Oley Turnpike Dairy to experience the new baby animals. I will be sending out a permission slip along with a volunteer request form as I would love for parents to join us at Oley.

Upcoming Events
I am very excited about our year and we are going to start it off right. We are going to start by getting to know one another. This is going to tie into a unit on diversity and learning about where different people come from and all of our differences. Along with that, throughout the year we will be learning about acceptance and niceness. I am starting a "Nice Initiative" whereby the students will be learning about not only our differences but accepting one another for who we are inside...More information to follow.
Should you have any questions, concerns or comments I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Welcome!
Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new year and my new blog. Let me begin my introducing myself and giving you a little background as to how I got to be your children's teacher. I am Mrs. Rebecca Sterner, your children's 4th grade teacher for this year. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kutztown University in December 2001 with a B.A. in Speech Communications. After graduating I went right into getting married and starting a family. I have two beautiful children but I knew there was more out there for me. So, in 2008 I decided it was time to go back to school. I received my Teaching Certification from Kutztown University in April 2011 and now here I am! I love being a teacher and I very much look forward to spending the year with your children. I like to be a very "hands on" teacher and will work as hard as I can to make sure each child succeeds to the best of their ability.
This year will be filled with new learning opportunities for everyone. In the coming weeks I will be updating this blog with information regarding our lessons, any homework, projects, or tests coming up, as well as information on what you can do at home with your child to make this year their best.
Here's to a great year!!
